2016 PSLE English Continuous Writing Composition -A secret

“Please keep this a secret,” Sarah whispered anxiously as she handed me a small envelope. Her worried expression made me curious immediately.

After school that day, I opened the envelope. Inside was a short note asking me to meet her behind the locked gate near the old storeroom at six o’clock. The place was dark and deserted, and fear crept into my heart as I walked there that evening.

When I arrived, I was shocked to see Sarah kneeling beside a weak stray dog. Its fur was muddy, and one of its legs was injured. Sarah explained that she had secretly been feeding and caring for the dog because she was afraid the security guards would chase it away.

As I watched the dog wag its tail weakly, guilt filled me. I had imagined terrible things about Sarah’s secret, but it was actually an act of kindness. Together, we cleaned the dog’s wound and gave it food and water.

A few days later, we informed our teacher, who contacted an animal shelter to help the dog.

From this experience, I learnt not to judge others too quickly. Sometimes, secrets can hide kindness and compassion instead of wrongdoing.
