PSLE CONTINOUS WRITING COMPOSITIONS
6/15/20263 min read

I was excited when I left the school, my head still reeling from the announcement that my teacher, Miss Wong, had made in class that day.
The school was organising a newsletter competition and pupils were to work in groups of four to five to produce an interesting newsletter about twenty pages that pupils would find interesting to read. The winning team would receive a cash prize of $1000 and a trophy. The newsletter would also be printed and distributed among all the pupils in the school.
I had high hopes of winning the competition, especially when I learnt who my group members would be. All pupils had been randomly assigned into groups by their form teachers. My group consisted of Irfan, Sue Ling and Rick. Irfan was good at photography and would be able to take eye-catching photographs for the newsletter. Sue Ling was proficient in the software needed to produce the newsletter. Rick was good at illustrating while I was confident of my writing abilities. I had faith that my team would be able to work together and use all our strengths to win the competition.
We met the next day after school to discuss the project and what each of us had to do. After brainstorming for a while, we settled on a few topics we could write on as well as what segments to include in our newsletter to make it more appealing to readers. We decided to focus on places of interest in Singapore and made plans to visit places like the Botanic Gardens and Haw Par Villa. During our visits, Irfan took photographs of the places while Sue Ling helped to look out for any interesting spots which would make for interesting photographs. Meanwhile, Rick and I took notes about the places so that we could include them in our articles.
After we had gathered all the information required, I proceeded to write the articles, with Rick helping me to check the facts as well as language accuracy. Meanwhile, Sue Ling proceeded to design the layout of the newsletter, with Irfan’s help. After the articles were completed, we met at Sue Ling’s house to finalise the layout of the newsletter and where the articles and photographs ought to be placed. After we were satisfied, we printed a copy out and read it carefully to check if there were any errors, for we wanted it to be perfect.
After going through our newsletter countless times, we were finally ready to submit our work. The four of us could not wait for the results to be announced, for we knew that we had done a good job. After a month, the principal made the announcement during assembly that our team had won the competition. As we proceeded up on stage to collect the prize and the trophy, I looked at my team members in appreciation, proud of the teamwork we had displayed in working together to win the competition.
