On a Sunday afternoon, I had arranged to meet up with my friend, Joel, at a shopping centre. As I had reached the shopping centre early and was feeling hungry, I bought a snack and went to the rooftop garden to wait for Joel. I found a bench to sit and started munching on the snack.
After I had finished eating, I stood up to go to the toilet to wash my hands. Upon coming out from the toilet, I reached into the left pocket of my shorts for my phone. To my horror, the left pocket was empty! I immediately reached into the right pocket and there was only my wallet. “Where did I leave my phone?!” I muttered under my breath as I panicked. I took deep breaths to calm myself down and thought about the possible places that I could have left my phone at. I speculated that my phone might have slipped out of my pocket as I stood up from the bench to go to the toilet. I frantically went back to the bench, hoping that I would reunite with my phone.
To my despair, my phone was not found on the bench. The worst-case scenario started flooding my mind – what if someone found my phone and kept it? My hands and legs started trembling at the thought of not having my phone back and having to face the music when my parents find out. Just as I was having all these horrifying thoughts, I suddenly recalled seeing the information counter as I was taking the escalator up to the rooftop garden. I felt a glimpse of hope as I swiftly made my way to the information counter.
At the information counter, the staff greeted me with a friendly smile and asked what she could help me with. I explained to her what happened and she asked me to describe my phone so that she could identify it among the lost items that were collected.
Upon hearing my description, she showed me a phone and asked if it belonged to me. When I saw the bright red phone casing, I realised that it was my phone. Upon seeing it, I was instantly relieved and exclaimed, “Yes, this is my phone indeed! Thank you very much!”
After confirming that I was indeed the owner of the phone, I went to meet Joel, who had attempted to call me on my phone a few times. After this incident, I learnt that it is very important to pay close attention to our belongings and ensure that they are not left behind. I am so grateful to the person who found my phone and left it at the information counter. The world is certainly a better place when we help one another.
