PSLE CONTINOUS WRITING COMPOSITIONS

6/15/20263 min read

I started at the circled date on the calendar with huge anticipation in my heart. I vividly remember marking it six months back, when I finally managed to get tickets to the newly opened theme park. My family had planned to visit Dreamland during the June holidays, but due to overwhelming popularity, tickets were sold out on all days. At that time, there was an avalanche of newspaper articles and daily reports on the overwhelming response for entrance tickets to Dreamland. Every social media platform was flooded with netizens who expressed their excitement at visiting Dreamland, or disappointment at failing to get tickets for their desired dates. It was the rave among all my classmates, and I still remember the look of envy on their faces when I proudly announced that my parents had managed to secure five tickets for our family for the first Friday of the end of year holidays, which was a very popular date.

My friends all know that I am a fan of amusement rides and theme parks, and I have visited every Disneyland in the world except the one in Shanghai. In the months leading up to the long-awaited day, whenever I had some free time, I would research on every ride available in Dreamland. I know where each ride is, where the gift shops are, what the best route is, and even where the restrooms are.

Now that the day has finally come, I could not wait to wake up and get dressed. Donned in my favourite outfit, I woke the entire household up. By 10 a.m., we were already scanning our e-tickets to enter Dreamland. I determinedly made a beeline for the High Flyer. It was the ride I was looking forward to the most. But alas, due to dark grey clouds and an impending rain looming in the near distance, the ride was temporarily suspended. What a damper!

We headed to the merry-go-round as my little brother was a fan of it. As the music blared loudly and the smiling faces of each passenger lit up the atmosphere, my spirits slowly lifted and we proceeded to go on the other rides, with me being the proud guide of the tour.

By 1 p.m., our adrenaline was rushing and I had forgotten about my earlier disappointment. We were raring to go for more heart-pounding rides, but our tummies grumbled for some food. I ordered a lemon soda while waiting for the food to arrive. Just then, the overhead announcement reported that the High Flyer was going to be suspended till further notice due to bad weather. But it wasn't even raining! I was back to my moody self and sulked for the rest of lunch.

To my pleasant surprise, the skies cleared after lunch and I led my family to queue for the High Flyer, just in case the ride opened. Apparently, I was not the only one with such thoughts because there was already a line of people ahead of us!

Nevertheless, I was persistent in going on the ride, which did open soon after. As I stood in line patiently, I also felt a tinge of apprehension for fear of the ride not being as thrilling as I had imagined it to be. After all, I had waited six months and four hours for this moment.

As I stepped off the platform after the ride, I concluded that the High Flyer was indeed worth the long wait.
