My Journey into Basketball

When my father first handed me a basketball, I wanted to learn the sport because my sister was already very good at it. I looked up to her and hoped that one day I could play just as well as she could. The moment I received the ball, I simply bounced it around on my own, not really knowing what to do. It felt exciting but also a little strange because everything was new to me.

Luckily, my sister encouraged me to join her and her friends instead of practising alone. To improve, I did two important things. First, I trained with my friends so that I could learn proper skills instead of guessing on my own. Second, my sister and I set a regular time to practise shooting, and sticking to that routine helped me get better at basketball gradually.

It took me a few weeks of steady practice before I finally became good at shooting a basketball. The feeling of improvement was amazing! One big way I have benefitted from basketball is that it has made me more confident. I now know that if I keep trying and practising, I can learn something new—even if it seems difficult at the beginning.

Basketball is no longer just my sister’s sport. It is mine too and I am proud of how far I have come!
