A Blessing In Disguise

Ravi was having breakfast when the phone rangl Ravi rushed to answer it. After a few minutes had elapsed, an excited Ravi replaced ithe phone freceiver, zoomed off into the kitchen to tell his mother the good news.

Ravi told his mother that his good friend Sundaram was going to celebrate his birthday at a five-star hotel with his family. Sundaram would like it if Ravi could come. Ravi’s mother Shanti did not share the same enthusiasm as Ravi when she heard that. Shanti gently pointed out to him that his PSLE examinations was just around the corner and that, that was not the time to squander what little precious time they had left.

Ravi’s face fell when he heard his mother’s reply. Ravi tried to plead his case by arguing that he had prepared well for the examinations and that a few hours would not make a difference. But Shanti refused to comply to his pleas. With a heavy heart, Ravi broke the bad news to Sundaram. “You’ll be missing all the fun,” were Sundaram’s words to a sad Ravi.

The following day, Ravi’s mother received a call: from Sundaramis aunt. Ravi heard his mother exclaim in shock. Ravi anxiously waited for his mother to finish talking on the phone. Shanti told Ravi that Sundaram, his family and some friends had been admhitted into a hospital due to food poisoning! Ravi was stunned when he heard the news. Poor Sundaram! What a thing to happen on his birthday. Shanti further revealed that since they all had severe vomiting and fever, the doctor had said that it would be at least ä week before they would be discharged from the hospital.

It then dawned upon a horrified. Ravis thati Sundaram would becmissing hisiPSLE examinations.”Mom, thank goodness you told me not to go,for then, I would have shared the same fate!” said a thankful Ravi to his mother.rfiMom, your preventing me from goingwas indeed a blessing in disguise!”.
