A Break In

It was a moonlit night. My parents had left me alone at home, telling me that they would have to visit a friend in Johore.I sat on my bed, trying to read a storybook. Out of the blue, I heard a creaking noise and footsteps. A chill ran down my spine and some doubts drifted through my mind.

“What is it? Is a burglary going to take place?”I thought,clutching my book.

Finally, I plucked up my courage and went downstair with a baseball bat in my hands.

There was a man with a mask trying to break into my house. As one of the windows broke a few days ago, he easily put his hand through the hole and opened the window. At this moment, my head was spinning. I felt dizzy. By sheer luck, he had not seen me yet.

He sneaked into the master bedroom first. Rapidly,he ransacked all the drawers and cupboards. He put all the

Jewellery and cash into his big bag and was about to leave. I felt my hair standing on ends. My body started shivering. However,I managed to pick up the telephone and dial 999. Soon, the police came and surrounded the whole area. They searched everywhere.

Finally, they saw the burglar hiding under the stairs of the opposite housing block. Without a word, they handcuffed him and took him back to a police station.

As soon as my parents returned home, I told them everything. They heaved a sigh of relief when they found me safe and sound.
