There was a day when everything went wrong for me. I have called it ‘Black Wednesday’. I woke up on that day feeling groggy and half deaf. Groggy because I had stayed up late the night before watching my favorite soap opera and half deaf because I had gone for my swimming lessons and somehow, water had entered my ears, which never had happened before.

I managed to shower and change and catch my bus just in the nick of time. I was feeling very pleased with myself for having gotten ready so quickly when I realized to my horror that I had forgotten to eat breakfast! Hungrily, I arrived in school hoping to eat something when I saw to my utter dismay a notice near the school canteen stating that it was closed for that day due to renovation work. It was only then I remembered that the Principal had announced the closure over the assembly just the day before.

I then went to my class – a pitiful figure. As our attendance was being taken, one of my classmates asked me something but since I could not quite hear her due to the water in my ears, I kept repeating “what” when I realized to my astonishment that everyone including a very annoyed teacher was looking at me. I had repeated my “what” a little too loudly. ”One more interruption from you Nancy and you will be asking ‘what’ to the discipline master!” said my annoyed teacher to me. I could see my classmates stifling their giggles.

Later in the science lab, I broke two test tubes and was reprimanded by my teacher for being so careless. But strangely, I had expected to break the test tubes since everything was going so wrong for me on that day.

During the last period, my maths teacher commended me for having done well in a test. ‘Finally, something right was happening,’ I thought. But unfortunately, I was the only one to have done well in my exam! Everybody else did rather poorly. Nobody congratulated me. I felt despised. Somehow, I felt like a black sheep in my class for that.

Finally, the day was over. I never want to relive Black Wednesday ever again!
