A Dishonest Act

Crash! The glass vase smashed onto the ceramic floor. Guo Ming stared at the broken pieces scattered about him. He did not know what to do. He had been playing football in the house again. He had been warned many times not to do so. Guo Ming fol sure he was going to get a good spanking that time. The blue glass vase was his mother’s favourite.

Then he thought about how he could escape punishment. He would lie, he decided. “I am going to say the neighbour’s cat did it!” he thought and he felt delighted.

At that point, the maid servant entered the hall. “You have been playing ball again, haven’t you?” she asked Guo Ming but Guo Ming just said that the cat knocked the vase onto the floor.The maid servant cleared the broken pieces and shook her head sadly. She knew the boy was lying.

His parents believed him when he told them the fib. After a few days however, Guo Ming thought about his dishonest behaviour. He felt ashamed of himself. He admitted his fault to his parents and to the maid servant too. His parents were proud of him and they said, “Now, don’t you feel much better after telling the truth?” Guo Ming certainly did.
