A Doting Mother Slipped And Her Infant Landed On The Floor

One windy morning, a doting mother, Mrs. Margaret Oh, was in the kitchen. She was cutting some onions. Suddenly, she heard her oneyear-old infant, Jane, wailing. She sensed something amiss. She rushed into the bedroom and carried Jane from the cot. Jane looked frightened.Her face was pale. Mother cuddled Jane for ten minutes or so before she lulled her to sleep. As Jane was sound asleep in her arms, mother heaved a sigh of relief. At last she could begin her preparation for the afternoon meal in earnest. Fearing that her infant might wail again, she carried Jane in her arms.

At this juncture, she wanted to cut lean meat. She cut it with some difficulty. She then put the meat in a bowl. Fish sauce was added to it. Next she washed the leafy vegetables. Just as she getting some salt from a container, suddenly, a window slammed, causing her infant to wail. Mrs. Margaret Oh took fright and was taking Jane into the bedroom. She did not notice three pieces of onion on the floor. She stepped on them, slipped and fell heavily onto the hard floor. Her infant was flung to one side. Jane wailed and wailed. Her head was bleeding badly. When mother rushed to her side, she was shocked to see her in such a state. Mother bandaged Jane’s head wound and rushed out to hail a taxi.

As the taxi was speeding towards the nearest hospital, mother noticed that Jane was unusually quiet. She had slipped into a coma.
