A Fire Drill

One cloudly morning, our class was having a Reading lesson on “The Adventure of Sinbad The Sailor”. We were reading softly together when we heard a continuous ringing of the bell. We all knew that it was a fire drill as it was not the first time we had one. So we readily packed up and waited for instructions.

My classmates and I quickly lined up in twos and walked briskly to the safe area. All the other classes were assembled in the field and everyone behaved well. Some teachers went to the pilets to check if anyone was there. The sign boards directed us to the assembly area.

There were sign boards hanging on the fence with class codes so that we know how to line up. The teachers head-counted their pupil. Mrs Paul, who was head-counting us, told us one of our pupils was missing but when she saw that Yangguang was tying his shoe laces, she realized that she did not see him among us and had not counted him.

After everyone was accounted for, the principal, Mr Chen,made a brief speech. He told us we took only ten minutes to leach the assembly area and declared the fire drill exercise a success. He also praised us for our good behaviour.

After the briefing, we returned to the classroom. Mrs Paul stopped the Reading lesson as it was almost recess time. She wrote down the homework that we needed to do on the blackboard and let us go for recess earlier. During recess time, I lit very happy because Mr Chen praised us for behaving well.
