A Freak Incident

One rainy morning, a commuter, Joseph, was travelling in a crowded double-decker. He was on the upper deck and carried a tiffin carrier. Suddenly, the driver swerved to avoid hitting a boy who dashed across the road. As he was going to alight, the impact sent him losing his balance. He fell heavily to the floor. His tiffin carrier was flung out of the window and its contents were spilled and scattered onto the road, Motorists and motorcyclists came screeching to a stop as the food posed a hazard to road-users. Vehicles could skid and their occupants die in an accident which was often fatal. There was chaos on the road as more and more vehicles braked abruptly.

At this juncture, someone stepped out and helped Joseph to his feet. Joseph suffered bruises and cuts on his hands and knees. He limped painfully to a vacant seat beside a window. The driver flew into a rage and reprimanded the boy for his rash act. The boy had a miraculous escape from certain death. The boy who was ashamed of his rash action, apologised to the enraged driver and fled to a wooded park. Joseph sat on his seat looking dazed with shock. Meanwhile, the driver stopped his vehicle, grabbed the first aid kit and went to the upper deck on hearing the commotion. He administered medicine on Joseph’s wounds. Just at this moment, a road-sweeper appeared and removed the food on the road, much to the relief of other passengers.

It was a freak incident and Joseph would not forget it for the rest if his life.
