A Frightened Baby Girl Pinning For Her Mother

It was a cool morning. A baby girl, June, was fast asleep on the floor. All the windows were open. A sudden gust of wind slammed the door, causing a picture on the wall to crash onto the floor. The noise was deafening. June was rudely awakened and started wailing. She wailed incessantly for she was full of fright. She was pinning for her mother who was busily washing clothes in the bathroom. Unfortunately, mother was listening to a long story broadcast over Rediffusion and oblivious to the commotion in the room. By this time, June was crawling out of her mattress to seek her doting mother. She was confronted with the door which was slammed shut. When she reached the wooden door, she stood up with some difficulty. She used all her strength to open the door. However, it was of no avail. She tried again and again. She had a very strong will. At last, she was successful. She crawled out of her room and started wailing again. Her mother was nowhere to be seen. She crept to the hall but there was no sign of her doting mother. She screamed for help frantically because she was desperate and scared.

Just then, the story that was broadcast over Rediffusion ended and mother was distressed. She grieved over the death a loyal general of the Tang Dynasty. Even in bad times, the general stood by the boy emperor. His loyalty moved her to tears. All of a sudden, she heard a loud cry. It was familiar sound. It was June’s. She rushed out and carried June in her arms. Mother comforted her and later lulled her to sleep.
