A Hawker Centre

We all agree that food is a Singaporean pastime. We love to eat all kinds of food and, it is easy to find many hawker centres, food streets or food malls around to satisfy our gastronomic desires.

There is a hawker centre near my house. It is big and spacious, but dirty, untidy and noisy, especially when it is dinner time. This centre is not only frequented by residents living nearby, but other outsiders too.

In fact, I don’t feel like going to this hawker centre to buy food, but I have no other choice as it is the nearest to my living place. Whenever I walk in, I can easily find fluorescent lights surrounded by flying ants and most of the fans around are covered by thick layers of dirt and dust. On the floor, there are pieces of tissue papers and scrapes of chicken or fish bones On the tables, unfinished food and drinks are scattered with disgusting flies above.

The hawker centre is noisy. People are talking, chatting, laughing and even shouting at one another. Though the toilets are built a distance away from the hawker centre, the smell of the urine can still cause the customers to lose their appetite.

The common food sold at the hawker centre are prawn noodles, chicken rice, fried kway teo, mee rebus, mee siam and many others. However, if you eat any of them too often or too much, one day you will surely feel sick and tired of eating them. What is more, the food there is not really cheap.

But then, you can try other hawker centres if you get tired of this one.
