A Jogger Who Hurt His Toe

It was around dawn. The scene was a stadium. A cool breeze blew across the grounds as housewives and joggers mingled to commence their morning exercises. A male instructor held a megaphone and beckoned the housewives to perform the delicate body movements of a Chinese martial art. He stepped out and practised the initial body movement and the housewives followed suit. The housewives’body movements were in rhythm with the taped music that blared out from the cassette-recorder. A lone jogger, John, was jogging round a track. He was in his early teens. Sporting jogging shorts and shoes, he jogged leisurely. It was quite dark as he rounded the bend. Suddenly, he screamed, “Ouch! My toe! It hurts!” A moment later, he was limping to a grassy patch of the stadium. His face grimaced with pain as he sat down.He knew that he had kicked a rock. He took off his socks and shoes. A sock was bloodstained as blood seeped into it.

When he plucked up enough courage to look at his wound, he was horrified. He suffered a gash on a toe of his right foot. It was bleeding badly. He took out his handkerchief and bandaged his wound. Fearing for his well-being, he raised the alarm, “Someone helps me! I’m in distress! My toe is bleeding! Save me before it is too late!” A kind housewife saw his plight and came to his aid. She helped him to his feet and they inched their way towards the exit of the stadium. She then rushed him to hospital in a taxi.
