A Man Who Could Not Sleep A Wink

One night, a burly man, Paul, went to bed. He had just eaten a heavy supper. Minutes later, he was tossing in bed. Just then, a strong howling wind was blowing outside the house. He was alarmed to hear it as it usually marked the arrival of a storm. Hours earlier, the sky was overcast. Paul got up reluctantly and was going to peer at the dark sky when heavy rain lashed at the window. He was startled and rubbed his bleary eyes to find out if he was dreaming. He was wrong. There was a heavy downpour. He acted fast and closed the windows quickly to prevent rainwater seeping into his bedroom. His hair was wet as lashing rain hit him relentlessly He dried his hair with a towel and soon went to bed.

However, he was restless and began tossing in bed again. He dreamt that the road would be flooded the next day. He would be late for work and his employer would be cross with him. Raging, swirling floodwater would give him the shivers when he was confronted been it.Would he be stranded at a bus stop if the rain fell intermittently? What if the floodwater kept on rising to a dangerous level? He was deeply troubled. These thoughts aggravated his restlessness and he could not sleep a wink. He was in a bad mood.

For the next two hours or so, he lay awake and recollected his hectic life in a bustling city. Times were hard as he had to toil from morning to night. His wages were meagre and he found difficulty in making ends meet.

The next day, he fell ill and did not go to work.
