Two men were lying on a lifeboat motionless. They wore torn and tattered clothes. The little boat was bobbing up and down on the waves. One of them said, gazing up into the sky,”John, do you think that we will be saved?”

“There is a very slim chance. We are stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The supplies have already run out and I am starving! Bob, I hope, of course, we will be saved,” said John weakly.

All that had happened flashed across Bob’s eyes.

It was a fine day. Captain Bob said to the skipper, “John,I don’t think there will be a problem in sending this shipment of bird’s nest to America. We’re really lucky. The weather is fine. What can go wrong?”

No sooner had Bob said that, suddenly, a deafening explosion was heard. It came from the fuel tank. The flames spread rapidly and a few crewmen raced to the spot with fire extinguishers and tried to put out the fire.

Despite their efforts, the fire spread faster than they could handle. In no time, the bow of the ship was in flames. Several smaller explosions were heard occasionally, followed by some eerie screams. Everyone was rushing for the lifeboats. John pulled Bob to one of the lifeboats but Bob refused.

“The captain of the ship must go down with his boat!” shouted Bob.

“Don’t be foolhardy!” John shot back.

Bob was dragged to one of the lifeboats and before he could protest, John freed the lifeboat which landed in the sea with a loud splash. John rowed the boat with all his might until they were a very far distance from the sinking ship.

All of a sudden, John caught sight of a fishing boat. “Heyl There is a boat! We are saved!” John shouted zestfully. He apparently forgot his hunger and thirst. Bob used his captain’s outfit to wave at the boat to draw attention. The sea was getting more violent and their lifeboat would capsize at any moment.

Fortunately, the men on the fishing boat spotted them and came to their rescue. “You see, I said we would be okay!” John quipped.
