A Night’s Sleep Ruined By Mosquitoes

A farmer, Ah Wei, toiled from dawn to dusk to till the soil. With the aid of his buffalo, he ploughed the field. He was getting the field ready to sow the next crop, wheat. As night drew near, he bathed and had a good dinner. Soon he was retiring for the night. Wearing his pyjamas, he was getting into bed. The next moment a swarm of mosquitoes descended upon him. They buzzed and irritated him. He tossed about in bed as he tried to fight off the buzzing mosquitoes. It was a losing battle as the mosquitoes bit him viciously. Soon his face, neck, hands and legs were covered with mosquito bites. He got up and applied some medicinal ointment on these irritating bites. It brought some relief to him and he thought that the mosquitoes might have gone elsewhere. He went to bed again.

All at once the mosquitoes swarmed and buzzed around him, ruining his sleep. He flew into a rage and switched on the light. He waited for the insects to bite him. Then he killed them with his bare hands. He was met with some success. However, it was painstaking and he had to keep himself awake. Feeling desperate and frustrated, he took out his old mosquito net. He then went about to sleep under the mosquito net. He soon dozed off as he was weary. Soon he was awakened by buzzing mosquitoes. He was taken aback. He looked up and spotted some big holes on the net.

Ah Wei had a restless and sleepless night.
