A Pampered Child Who Threw Tantrums

One Friday evening, the Lim family sat down to enjoy a steamboat dinner at a posh restaurant. When Mrs. Lim passed a piece of lean meat to her son, Alan. He threw his tantrums and refused to eat. He lay on the carpeted floor, scattered toothpicks around, and poured salt on the table. He made funny faces at his doting parents. Despite Alan’s tantrums, Mrs. Lim moved over and tried to coax him to eat the meat, “It’s delicious. It’s good for your health. Be a good boy. Mum will buy you some toys.” However, it was in vain. He screamed aloud and kicked angrily at his chair. Next he stamped his foot, irritating other diners in the wel-lit air-conditioned restaurant. They stared at Alan in disgust. They did not want Alan to spoil their evening.

At this juncture, despite Mrs. Lim’s persistent attempts, she failed miserably. She returned to her seat in disgust. Mr. Lim stepped in to try to avoid creating a scene in this high-class restaurant. Such scene would bring shame to his family. Mr. Lim asked his son, Alan, the reason for his unhappiness. He yelled at Mr. Lim, “I hate to eat lean meat. I love lollipops.” Mr. Lim scratched his head and wondered where to find one. He, too, failed to coax Alan to eat the meat. His elder sister. Jenny, intervened. Being strict and fierce, she screamed at him, causing a stir among the well-dressed diners. Alan rose and flung his bowl on the floor in anger. Many diners shook their heads and said, “He is too pampered.”

A moment later, the manager of the restaurant, a burly man in his thirties approached the Lim family. He was very angry. Alan spotted him and hid behind his chair. Alan dared not throw his tantrums anymore!The manager helped to save the day!
