A Pilot Lucky To Be Alive

It was a sunny Monday morning. A pilot, Anthony, was cruising in mid-air in his motorised hang glider. He just took off from a hilltop ten minutes ago. He loved adventure, thrills of gliding in the air and the picturesque sight of the countryside. He felt carefree when he was gliding in mid-air. He wanted to be free from the hassle and bustle of city life. The air in the countryside was fresh and clean.

Soon he buzzed over his uncle’s sprawling cattle ranch He felt great and jubilant. His uncle and his employees spotted him and cheered him. He waved back happily. All of a sudden, he saw the deadly 300,000 volt cables directly in his path. “Oh no, if I even brush those cables, they’ll turn me into charcoal,” he thought. He acted fast. He tried to point the glider up to climb over the wires, but he knew immediately he was not going to make it. He kept his fingers crossed as the nose of the plane whisked over the top wire. He heaved a sigh of relief. However, his joy was short-lived when he felt a tug at the back of the plane. The tiny wheel at the tail had been hooked. The plane fell back onto the net of cables. Instantly, his world turned into a display of sparks, flames and sheer bolts of lightning in front of him.

Anthony survived because an automatic switch cut off power in the lines as soon as his glider touched the first wire. If the plane had touched two live wires at the same time, it would have instantly turned into a deadly electric chair. A huge crane was brought in and finally lowered him to the ground.

Anthony was lucky to be alive. He cheated death!
