"April Fools' Day is next week!" exclaimed Ben excitedly during recess.
My best friend, Sarah, and I exchanged mischievous smiles. We wanted to play a harmless prank on our classmate, Jason, who was always joking with others. We quickly came up with a plan.
That afternoon, we sat together and discussed every detail carefully. We decided to tell Jason that our school principal had chosen him to represent the school in a national singing competition. Since Jason loved singing, we were sure he would believe us. To make the prank more convincing, we created a fake invitation letter and marked the date on our calendars.
For the next few days, we prepared everything. On the morning of April Fools' Day, Sarah handed Jason the letter. His eyes widened with excitement as he read it. "Really? Me?" he asked, hardly able to contain his joy.
Soon, he rushed around telling everyone the good news. When the principal happened to walk by, Jason proudly thanked her for the opportunity. The principal looked puzzled. Realising that the prank had gone too far, I felt a knot form in my stomach.
I immediately stepped forward and confessed.
"I'm sorry, Jason. It was only an April Fools' joke."
To our surprise, Jason laughed instead of getting angry. "You really got me!" he said.
Although our plan was carried out successfully, I learnt an important lesson that day: a good plan should never hurt someone's feelings. From then on, I made sure my jokes were kind and considerate.
