A Regrettable Act

It all started when our cousin May Wong came to stay with ps for the holidays. May was a cheerful girl and at first we all liked her very much. As the days went by however, my sister and I grew to dislike her. This was because we found out that she was boastful.

Whatever was hers was always better than what was ours.We began to avoid her. Our mother warned us not to hurt May’s feelings.

Soon May realised that we were avoiding her. She still remained her cheerful self and was as talkative as ever. One cold night, my sister and I head her crying softly in the room next door. We ignored it thinking she was trying to get our attention.The next day, May was terribly ill. Our mother sent for an ambulance but before it could arrived, May had passed away.

We learned that May had an incurable sickness. I was filled with grief and regret. I felt that our mother should have told us but when I asked her why she kept it a secret, she said, “It was her only wish.”
