A Stray Cat

I have seen it many times before. Sometimes, the poor thing is tormented by groups of mischievous children. The one-eyed stray cat merely limps away from the rowdiness. My heart aches each time I witness this scene.

After school, I would ask my mother for some food for the cat. Placing it on an old piece of newspaper, I would then coax the cat towards it. Siti, my next door neighbour, would also do the same at times. She loves cats too.

One day, I arrived home from school to see a group of children kicking up a fiasco. I walked quickly towards them to see what the matter was. Sadly, I saw one stocky boy, still in his school uniform, kicking the poor cat. The cat was not moving. Its one good eye was barely opened. Unable to bear it any longer, I screamed at the children. They were stunned. I had to push the mean boy aside too. Then I picked up the cat and brought it home.

For a few days, the cat had to be in an animal hospital.However, the injuries it had suffered had been too great. The stray died at the end of five days.
