"Who would like to lead a project to help the elderly in our neighbourhood?" Mrs Tan asked.
An idea immediately popped into my mind. I raised my hand and suggested organising a community event where students could prepare simple meals and help clean the homes of elderly residents. Mrs Tan smiled and encouraged me to present the plan to the class.
The following week, I explained my idea during class. My classmates supported it enthusiastically. Together, we divided ourselves into teams. One group designed invitation cards for the residents. Another collected cleaning supplies such as mops, pails and cloths. My team worked with our parents to prepare healthy meals.
On the day of the event, we arrived early and got to work. Some students cleaned dusty windows and swept the floors, while others delivered food to the elderly. I helped an elderly woman tidy her living room. She thanked me warmly and shared stories about her childhood. Seeing her smile made all our hard work worthwhile.
At the end of the day, the residents gathered at the community hall. They expressed their gratitude and applauded our efforts. Mrs Tan praised us for carrying out the project successfully and reminded us that even small acts of kindness could make a big difference.
As I looked around at my cheerful classmates and the happy residents, I felt proud. Our plan had not only helped others but had also brought the community closer together. It was truly a successful plan.
