A Trip to City Hall

It was a fine Sunday morning. The class was going on a trip to City Hall. I had never been to City Hall before. Sandra, my classmate, said we could see the sea there.

The class of thirty and Mrs Bullock, our teacher, filled up a big school bus. Soon, we reached City Hall. We were to visit many important places from there.

First, we saw the statue of Sir Stamford Raffles. He founded Singapore in the year 1819. Then, we saw the Merlion. It looked grand in the bright morning light.

After a lunch of sandwiches and orange juice, we visited the National Museum. There were many interesting, old things there. These things reminded us of our past.

Finally, we saw the building of the Supreme Court. The building was built during colonial times, our teacher explained.Its structure is uniquely British.

Although I was not quite sure about the historical background of the places I had visited that day, I was sure that they marked the spots where Singapore first began to grow.
