All men and women must have purposes in life. Discuss.

ALL MEN AND WOMEN MUST HAVE PURPOSES IN LIFE

Do we all know why we are here? Looking at the way the universe is organised and the way things move, it does seem that everything has a purpose. If that is true then we do not have to worry about a purpose; for we will have been born for one! Hence all we have to do is ‘be’ and let things happen, for everything happens according to purpose. Once we accept such statements,we are sliding into fatalism, the belief that everything is predestined. It is a good thing that the human race did not fall into this trap; if it had we would still be in the early stages of human existence on earth — perhaps still wandering around naked, eating raw meat and roots of plants.

Early in life all of us should determine the purpose of our lives, at least on those points that we have the power to. Based on what vocation we intend to follow in life, we should get the relevant education. We should be brave to dream dreams and to work towards them. We should also have purposes other than just those on vocations and material possessions.

Purposes of life should include noble purposes such as what we are going to do for the environment. Great thinkers have said that every individual must leave the world a little better than he or she found it. This could be in the form of a book, an educational institution, a few good children or at least one or perhaps even a few happy people. Many of these cannot be measured with money. But that is not to suggest that good cannot be done with money. On the contrary a lot of good can be done with money. Perhaps a home for charity, perhaps the life of an orphan faraway made better through a scholarship. The opportunities to live life with a noble purpose are ample and there is a way for each one of us, suited especially to our personality make ups and preferences.

Living without a noble purpose is not living at all,it is just existing. Even the lower animals do this and since we claim to be higher than them, we must have purposes in life. We must live, not merely exist.
