An Art Competition

During the September holidays, an art competition was organised by our Community Club for three to five-year-olds. The art competition was organised to celebrate the Community Club’s opening. My mother asked my little brother whether he would like to join. My four-year-old brother, who very much likes to draw, agreed readily.

On the day of the competition, all the participants had to meet at the neighbourhood park. The theme of the art competition was “Our Beautiful Estate”. The participants had to draw scenes depicting our estate. My parents and I accompanied our brother to the park and we decided to have a picnic at the same time. The parents and family members of the other participants seemed to have the same idea as us.

The atmosphere was almost like a carnival but quieter The children were really enjoying themselves. For once, I was enjoying myself too because it was quite peaceful even though there were so many little children all over the place. The little children, including my brother, were all engrossed in their drawing and colouring. One rule of the contest was parents or family members or friends were not supposed to help the participants.

My brother did not need any help at all and he seemed to be progressing very well. I was quite proud of him. I decided to walk around and take a look at the work of the Other participants. Some of them were very good but some of them drew really weird pictures. Some of the drawings looked very funny and I had to stifle my giggles. When it was time for the participants to colour their drawings, some of them were really creative. They had strange colour schemes For example, some of them coloured the sky green and the grass blue and the trees purple.

About an hour later, most of the participants, including my brother were about to complete their masterpieces. I thought my brother’s work was really good and I was hoping that he would win a prize. My parents shared my feelings too. Soon, time was up, and the competition officials who were positioned all over the park, went around to collect al the art pieces. Some children who had not completed burst into tears and the officials tried to console them by allowing them a little more time to complete. My brother, fortunately had completed his work ten minutes before completion time.

We then sat under a shady tree to have a picnic while waiting for the results. The rest of the parents, family members and participants did the same thing. My mother had made chicken curry and delicious sandwiches and fruit jellies for us. We wolfed down all the food hungrily. About fifteen minutes later, an announcement was made. The results were to be announced soon. We waited tensely and hopefully. We cheered when we heard my brother’s name.He had won the second prize. My brother blushed happily.He was quite shy but he was very happy to have won a prize.My parents and I were very happy too. It was an enjoyable and fruitful day for us.
