An Encounter With A Hippopotamus

One fine morning, two men were boating on a river. Ducklings were quacking everywhere. A gentle breeze rippled the surface of the river. All of a sudden, a hippopotamus emerged and reared its ugly head, giving the two men the shivers. They were taken aback. They froze and were speechless. Their faces were as pale as a sheet of white paper.

As this enormous animal went under water, its impact rocked the boat, causing them to lose their balance. They fell heavily in the boat. They were groaning in pain. One of them, Robert, acted fast. He pulled his companion up and glanced back constantly to size up the situation. He was fearful of what lay ahead of them. The thought of death from drowning frightened him out of his wits. He kept his fingers crossed. His companion, Alan, was still feeling dizzy. Robert grabbed hold of him and was prepared for the worst. He looked on with apprehension.

At this juncture, the ugly-looking hippopotamus appeared again, causing the boat to capsize. The two men were thrown overboard and,minutes later, they were struggling desperately in the water for dear life. Being non-swimmers, their heads were bobbing in and out of the water. Soon they clung to the overturned boat for dear life.

A minute later, the current was very strong. By this time, they were weak from exhaustion. They released their firm grips on the boat. Then they were dragged about fifty meters downstream by the strong current. Soon they went under. There was an eerie silence at the scene.
