PRIMARY SCHOOL COMPOSITIONS (UPPER PRIMARY)

It was a Friday morning and we were all looking forward to recess. As I am a prefect, I had to be on duty for the first five minutes of recess. My duty was to make sure that all the children lined up properly to buy their food. My partner, Navin who also happens to be my classmate will take over for the next five minutes. Navin would usually buy my food while I do my duty.

On that morning, while I was on duty, I saw a little boy sitting by himself. He seemed very lost and frightened. Some of his friends went up to him and spoke to him but he was shaking his head forlornly. I decided to find out what was going on.

“Hello, what’s your name?” I asked him.

“I’m Chong Hong,” he whispered.

“Are you all right?” I asked again.

He suddenly burst into tears and in between his muffled sobs, I managed to make out that he had lost his wallet and he did not have any money to buy food. He actually looked quite cute and comical and I felt so sorry for him. I went to Navin and took out some of my pocket money and asked Navin to buy some food for Chong Hong. Navin also felt sorry for him.

At first Chong Hong was quite reluctant to eat the food but he was hungry so he stopped crying and ate his food. By that time, I had informed his form teacher about his loss, and his form teacher, Miss Tan thanked me. She comforted Chong Hong and told him that they would try to search for his wallet in class later. Chong Hong smiled shyly at me and whispered a soft “Thank you”.

Navin and I felt very happy about being able to help Chong Hong. We had also made a new little friend. The next day, we were summoned to the Principal’s office. We were a little anxious at first, but we found out that we were actually requested to meet Chong Hong’s parents who wanted to thank us for helping their son. We were a little embarrassed when our Principal praised us but we were very pleased of course.

Chong Hong was also reminded to be more careful with his wallet in future. However, he usually brings his own food to school nowadays, so he need not worry about losing his money. He has learnt his lesson, though, and he is more careful with his belongings now.
