An Incidental Pet

The van disappeared quickly from sight. On its sides, were painted theswords “Green Grass Home for the Aged” In the quiet that followed, a howling was heard. It was the dog, Left behind after years of guarding the old mistress and her rambutan trees. It had been a proud dog.

Then, it was all alone, We could not help but feel a little sorry for it. It turned out that we had more to do for the dog than we had imagined. For on the very next day, the wretched mongorel - a ‘neighbour’ we had hated and feared for so many yearsi- limped pitifully over to the, small field next to our house. It collapsed on a small hill.

Our mother quickly gave it some food and water in a small metal plate. After a while, the dog grew stronger. It stood upright. For a few days after, it seemed like a different dog It was friendly to us. It chased the frisbee we threw and bounded about the field happily. Suddenly, it felt as though the dog was our pet - an incidental pet.

However that feeling was short-lived. For after a week, the creature disappeared. One morning we woke up to find it gone. Since then, we never had an experience like that before It gave us a sad feeling.
