An Irresponsible Person

Last Saturday afternoon, a little boy, Patrick, was irresponsible, much to the indignation of his parents, classmate and neighbours. It was nearly one p.m. when he used a hammer to drive a nail into the wall. He wanted to hang a painting. After use, he left the hammer and some rusty nails lying conspicuously on the damp floor. It posed a hazard to his elderly parents. Both were frail and in poor health. They had poor eyesight too. Next, he forgot to close the kitchen cabinet after he had taken some eggs from a tray. His irresponsible action allowed cockroaches to crawl in and contaminate the onions and garlic stored in it. Half an hour later, he forgot to turn off the tap after use. Precious clean water went down the drainpipe in the bathroom wastefully. Next, he forgot to water the plants in the compound, leaving them wilted. Watering the plants was his responsibility.

When he left his house later, he forgot to buy cinema tickets and keep an appointment with his classmate, John, at the Queenstown Cinema. He had earlier promised to purchase the admission tickets and wait for John in the cinema lobby. John felt let down and depressed when Patrick did not turn up.

Meanwhile, he had promised to post letters and greeting cards for his two neighbours, Amy and Lucy. As he passed by a post office high up on a hill, he was too lazy to walk up the road. He just threw them into a fast-flowing drain.

He was indeed an irresponsible person.
