Behind the Bushes

The golden-red rays of the rising sun greeted me as I got ready to go jogging round the park. It was a Sunday and I had invited my friend to jog with me. The cool breeze of fresh air greeted me and my friend, Helen. As we came to the park, we were intoxicated by the beauty of the nature around us. A few minutes later, I heard an irritating noise coming from the bushes.

“Helen, do you hear any funny noise?”I asked. “Oh, what’s that?” came her reply. In fact, Helen and I had longed for an adventure. Would this noise be the source of an adventure? Helen and I hoped so, although the noise didn’t seem to promise anything.

The noise was a kind of hissing sound. With quickened heartbeats, we slowly walked nearer. We looked behind it and then, to our horror, we found a snake. Simultaneously, we screamed out. It suddenly caught the attention of other people around.

Our eyes were wide open in shock and we were almost paralysed. We only moved when someone tapped our shoulders.’Excuse me, why did you just scream?” asked a young man worriedly. I told him what we had just seen behind the bushes. At first, he made us calm down. He then reached behind the bushes and pulled out the snake immediately. Just then, we heard the sirens of a police car. Someone must have called for the police. The police placed the snake in a box with holes and left.

The young man introduced himself as Ron Davidson. He told us that he worked as a zoo-keeper and was not afraid of any snakes. Helen and I thanked him profusely for his assistance. Ron also told us that the snake was only a baby python. We were shocked to hear that because the snake was quite long and huge. When I reached home, I related the incident to my parents who were amazed by our discovery. Fortunately, Helen and I were not hurt in any way.
