Building A Snowman

Last December, my family and I went for a holiday to Toronto, Canada. We went to visit my uncle and his family who had migrated to Canada five years ago. It was a very when we arrived at Toronto International Airport. My Uncle James and Aunt Jean met us at the airport. My two cousins were in school.

It was very cold when we stepped out of the airport but there was no snow yet. When we reached my uncle’s house we were so tired that we immediately went to bed. It was already quite dark even though it was only 6 o’clock in the evening. My parents got up for dinner, but my brother and I slept on until the next morning.

When we woke up the next morning, we discovered to our delight that it had snowed heavily the previous night.When we looked out of the window, the whole world seemed to be dusted with a thick layer of white powder. It was incredibly beautiful and my family was very amazed and excited because it was the first time we saw snow.

My cousins, Joshua and Joy quickly dragged us out of bed. They shouted excitedly that they were going to show us how to build a snowman. The only snowmen my brother and I had seen were in illustrations and comics. We went into the garden which was quite big and full of thick snow. The snow was so thick that we almost sank to our ankles walking on it. It felt soft and smooth, almost like talcum powder, but it was very cold. My parents and my uncle and aunt were busy trying to clear the driveway, where there was a thick layer of snow.

My cousin Joshua who was the eldest and strongest, chowed us how a snowman was built. It was a lot of hard work. Firstly, we had to pack snow tightly into balls. Then pe made the balls bigger by rolling it in the snow. The mowballs which were made by my brother and I kept on disintegrating. My cousins had to help us remake the snowballs again and again. We spent quite a lot of time and energy rolling the snowballs around. By the time we managed to make the lowest part of the snowman, we were exhausted.My cousins encouraged us to continue. We still had to make the second part and the head of the snowman. These two parts were smaller than the lowest part, so we took a shorter time to complete them.

We finally completed the structure of the snowman,My aunt gave us buttons, sticks, a carrot and an old scarf to decorate the snowman. We used two buttons for the snowman’s eyes, the sticks for his arms, the carrot for his nose and a little piece of twig for his mouth. We put the scarf around him and stuck the rest of the buttons on his chest. We also got a cap to put on his head. We cheered loudly when we saw our snowman. He looked really cute, exactly like the snowmen we see in books and on television.

It continued to snow for the rest of our stay in Toronto.We built two more snowmen and we also engaged in snowbal fights with our cousins. We also went sight-seeing around Toronto. Before we knew it, two weeks had passed and we Came to the end of our holidays. We were very sad to go back to Singapore because it had been a truly enjoyable holiday despite the cold weather.
