Christmas Shopping

Christmas falls on December 25 every year. Lf commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, the founder of the Christian faith, and it is an important festival for all Christians. One custom practised during Christmas is the exchanging of presents.

My family and I are Christians, so we celebrate Christmas,A week or two before Christmas, we would usually be very busy doing our Christmas shopping. My parents would usually hold a Christmas party and invite carolers to sing carols at our house. So, we have to buy lots of food for the party too We are also given some money to buy presents for our relatives and friends.

When my elder brother and I were younger, we believed in Santa Claus. We actually wrote letters to Santa. However,now that we are older, we know that it is actually our parents who wrote those letters of reply from Santa. My younger sister, however, still believes in Santa. We do not want to spoil the fun and tell her the truth because she is just four years old.

Last year, while we were doing our Christmas shopping,my mother decided to bring my sister to meet Santa at one of the department stores. The ‘Meet-Santa-Session’ was held at Centrepoint Shopping Centre. My little sister was very excited. She has never seen the real Santa before. My brother and I giggled secretly at her.

When we reached the shopping centre, it was quite crowded. There was a long queue at the ‘Meet-Santa-Session’,My brother and I fidgeted impatiently. My mother told us to go to Times Bookshop to read books and meet her about half an hour later. We readily agreed. The half an hour seemed to pass very quickly while we were engrossed in reading comics. When we got back to the queue, my little sister was next in line.

My elder brother noticed that my little sister did not look very happy. I took a look and saw that my sister looked very frightened. We went to her and asked her if she was alright.My mother assured us that she was just excited. When it was her turn, she had to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him her wish for Christmas. Santa asked for her name and she immediately burst into tears. Her tears quickly turned into loud wailing. Santa tried to calm her down, but she started screaming for my mother. My mother had no choice but to carry her off Santa’s lap. We were very embarrassed and we apologised profusely to Santa, who was trying not to laugh.

When we have managed to calm my sister down, we tried to ask her why she was so frightened of Santa. She replied that she did not like Santa’s beard and bushy eyebrows.We could not help but burst out laughing. Recently, she seemed to have forgotten her fear because she was pestering my mother to let her meet Santa even though Christmas is. About four months away.
