PSLE Grade A1 Situational Writing (Email)
Subject: Commending Your Staff for His Good Deed
Dear Mr Fandi,
I am writing to inform you about the good deed performed by one of your taxi drivers on 15 August 2024.
At about 1.40 p.m., I discovered that I had misplaced my wallet after reaching home. I realised that I had probably left it in the taxi. The wallet contained my student pass and weekly allowance.
This incident caused inconvenience to my mother because she would have had to help me replace my student pass despite her busy schedule. Although she advised me to contact the taxi company, I was still worried because I could not get through and was afraid that my wallet might be lost forever.
Fortunately, the taxi driver, Mr Ben Tan, found my wallet. He identified me as the owner by looking at the photograph on my student pass and kindly returned it to my home.
I would like to thank Mr Ben Tan for his honesty and kindness.

How to Plan and Write This Situational Writing for PSLE Grade A1
Step 1: Identify the PAF
Purpose
To inform the taxi company's manager about a driver's good deed.
Audience
Mr Fandi, the manager of the taxi company.
Format
Formal email.
Before writing, ask yourself:
Why am I writing? → To praise the taxi driver.
Who am I writing to? → The manager.
What tone should I use? → Polite, respectful and appreciative.
Step 2: Highlight the Required Content Points
Required Point - Information from the Pictures
Date of incident - 15 August 2024
When and where wallet was discovered missing - 1.40 p.m., at home
Inconvenience to mother - She would have to help replace the student pass despite being busy
Why you were still worried - Could not contact taxi company and feared wallet was lost
How driver identified owner - Saw the photo on the student pass

Step 3: Organise the Email
Paragraph 1 – Purpose
State why you are writing.

Explain how the driver found and returned the wallet.
Paragraph 5 – Appreciation
Thank the driver and manager.
Step 4: Use A1 Vocabulary
Instead of:
❌ "I lost my wallet."
Write:
✅ "I discovered that I had misplaced my wallet."
Instead of:
❌ "I was scared."
Write:
✅ "I was anxious that my wallet might never be recovered."

A1 Examiner's Tip
For commendation emails, spend most of your writing describing what the staff member did and why it was helpful. Examiners want to see that you understand the purpose of the email. The stronger your explanation of the good deed and its impact, the higher your score for both Content and Language.
