PSLE CONTINOUS WRITING COMPOSITIONS

6/15/20263 min read

It was a hot Saturday afternoon when I was walking home from the library. As I approached a busy road, I noticed an elderly woman standing at the pedestrian crossing. She leaned heavily on her walking stick and looked worried. Cars were speeding past, and she seemed too frightened to cross the road by herself.

Just then, the traffic light turned green for pedestrians. However, the elderly woman hesitated. I could see her trembling slightly. Without thinking twice, I walked up to her and asked politely, “Would you like some help crossing the road?”

Relief washed over her face. “Yes, please,” she replied softly.

I held her arm gently and guided her across the road. Halfway across, she stumbled slightly, but I supported her and made sure she reached the other side safely. She thanked me repeatedly, her eyes filled with gratitude.

As I was about to leave, I heard a faint meowing sound coming from a nearby drain. A tiny kitten was trapped inside. Feeling sorry for the frightened animal, I carefully climbed down and lifted it out. The kitten immediately curled up against me, as if it knew it was safe.

A passer-by had witnessed both incidents

and informed my school about them. A few weeks later, during assembly, the principal presented me with a Certificate of Commendation for showing kindness and compassion.

As the hall filled with applause, I felt proud but humbled. That day, I learnt that compassion is not about receiving rewards. It is about helping others when they need it most and making the world a little brighter.
