Describe a person who really attracts you

A PERSON WHO REALLY ATTRACTS ME

Indeed it is an unhappy state to be in to be attracted to a girl so much and yet not have the guts to walk up and talk to her. I am in such an unhappy state. She is a year older than I and is a student in the girls’ school next to mine. We meet everyday in the bus stop and sometimes take the same bus home. She alights one bus stop earlier than I and I have no idea where she lives.

How does she look like? She is tall and slim and has a very dark complexion, even for one of Indian ethnic origin. She has long flowing hair which reaches up to her knees. She is a simple person and is obviously a studious type. She wears gold rimmed spectacles and always has a book with her, which she reads even in the bus. She has dimples on both cheeks and has a friendly and peaceful face; which gives me the impression that she does not have an enemy in the world. She just bends her head and reads in the bus and when she walks she looks straight ahead. So far I have not even been able to meet her eyes. Therefore, I am not sure that she knows I am on this planet.

At first I could not make any inquiries about her because to do so would mean that I have to talk to one of her friends, and I do not know any of them. Then one day, Lawrence got down at the same bus stop as she did. Lawrence is a boy in the ‘B’ class and I am acquainted with him. I casually asked him about her. ”Hey, you interested in her or what?” he blurted out cheekily in front of a few of my friends. Now that embarrassed me and I wanted to strangle Lawrence. Anyway, he told me all that he knew. Her parents were strict and disapproved of any friendships with boys. Lawrence hinted that the only way I could get to her was to go for a sex change operation first – the parents were that strict. I swallowed as the situation looked hopeless.

I asked Lawrence about her movements and all he could tell me was that she goes to school and comes back by herself. Everywhere else she goes with her mother. The only chance I have, it seems, is to talk to her either when she goes to school or goes back home. This I dare not do because of the hundred over of her school mates and mine who always seem to be around. Things do look impossible. In fact Lawrence told me a practical way out of the whole situation: Forget it and look elsewhere. Well, I am not about to. All the girls I know look so small beside her and I just cannot stop admiring her. Perhaps one day I will find the courage to walk up to her, not caring how many hundred people there are, and say: ”Hello Chitra, I am Ram. I want to be your friend.” Until then I can hope and dream can’t I?
