Describe A Trip You Once Made To A Fishing Village

During the 1995 December holidays, my friends and I were invited to a fishing village. We received the invitation from Abdul, an old friend of ours from the village we used to stay when we were much younger. Abdul’s father was now headman of a small village in the state of Johor in Malaysia. We were very excited when Abdul invited us. There were five of us altogether.

The day came for us to make the trip. We met just after dawn at the bus station.

Already, a small crowd had gathered by then. Quickly, we bought our tickets and got into a big bus. The bus was airconditioned. There were a few empty seats when the bus started to move.

The journey turned out to be a smooth one. We saw large green padi fields and lush palm fruit plantations. Malaysia is known for her palm oil. We also passed through rubber plantations.The trees were so tall; towering above us.

It took us two hours to reach the sea. We could smell the sea when the bus neared it. In no time, the bus pulled into a small station. The passengers alighted. The sea was before us.

Abdul walked alongside the sea and we followed him. There were many attap houses scattered amongst the swaying coconut trees. Small village children ran about here and there, some laughing, some crying. We also saw some brown monkeys who shrieked and ran up the coconut trees with great agility.

Suddenly there was a loud yell. A small group of people had gathered about a spot on the beach. We rushed to see what the excitement was about. To our surprise, we saw, sprawled on the sand, a giant orange octopus. It was still alive. It made my hair stand on end to see the octopus wriggling about.

Soon, we reached Abdul’s house. After the interesting journey,we were given a feast of seafood fit for kings!
