Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Small Country

It is true that the countries of the world, though said to have equal rights, do differ in sizes. This difference in size does effect them in a lot of ways.

The advantages are that first of all there are fewer people on them, usually. It is easier to cater for the people when there are only a few of them. Also the country gets rich very fast and all its people are generally contented. We sce that this is true with regard to Singapore. In Singapore there is never any shortage. We have plenty to eat and drink and jobs are not at all difficult to find. In a small country, development is fast and easier too. The government has an easier task. Information spreading is fast. The people also develop a closeness to each other and are more cohesive.

However, in the international scene small is not beautiful. In fact it is true that small countries get bullied by their larger sisters. Sometimes it happens that small countries can just be overlooked and decisions made by the bigger countries forced on them. Big countries often do not need the smaller ones as much as the smaller ones need them. Because of this the smaller countries have less bargaining power unless, like Brunei, they have some natural resources which are much in demand by the giants. It is a simple problem of economics.

In a big country, the people have a larger area to travel about in. Few people would like to be cramped into a small country like Singapore, Brunei or Hong Kong for the whole of their lives. A way out of this disadvantage is, of course, to travel abroad. But this will incur more expense.

In my opinion, I believe that living in a big country like Australia must be very exciting and have more advantages than living in a small country like ours.
