PSLE CONTINOUS WRITING COMPOSITIONS

When I first met Ryan, I did not think we would ever become friends. He was a quiet boy who used a wheelchair after an accident. Whenever I tried to talk to him, he would simply smile and look away. I assumed that he did not want company.

One day, our teacher announced a class visit to an animal shelter. We were asked to work in pairs. To my surprise, I was paired with Ryan. At first, we spoke very little. The silence between us felt awkward.

At the shelter, we helped feed the animals and clean their cages. While watching a frightened puppy hiding in a corner, Ryan suddenly shared his story. He told me how lonely he had felt after the accident and how some classmates avoided him because they did not know how to interact with him. His words made me realise how wrong my assumptions had been.

As the day went on, we laughed while playing with the dogs and worked together to help the animals. By the end of the trip, we were chatting comfortably like old friends.

However, not everyone was happy. A few boys teased Ryan because of his wheelchair. I immediately stood up for him and told them to stop. From that day onwards, Ryan and I became inseparable friends.

Looking back, I learnt that true friendship is built on understanding and kindness. Sometimes, all it takes is a chance to look beyond appearances and get to know someone’s heart.
