Helping a Little Girl

One sunny Friday afternoon, as I was stepping out of the school gate, I saw a Primary One girl in tears. When I approached her, she said that she had missed the school bus.

I asked the little girl’s name, she said in a timid voice that her name was Betty. Betty was short, thin and had a round face She was fair and adorable. I asked her for her address and was surprised to know that she lived not far from my house.

Betty was still crying and I comforted her. She told me that she had no money to take a bus home and it was too far for her to walk. When I told Betty that I would take her home, she looked at me gratefully and thanked me politely.

When the bus came, Betty and I boarded it. I paid the fare The bus was not very packed. We found a seat and sat down. At the bus stop near Betty’s house, we alighted.

Betty’s house was not far away from the bus stop. We reached her house in less than five minutes. Betty thanked me for bringing her home and invited me in for a cup of tea. I declined the invitation as it was already late and my mother would be worried about me. However, I promised her that I would visit her the next time. She looked delighted and I bade her goodbye. As I was returning home, I felt very happy for having done something great.

I told my mother what had happened when I reached home. She felt very proud of me and praised me for having done a good deed.
