PRIMARY SCHOOL COMPOSITIONS (UPPER PRIMARY)

I used to think my classmate Ben, was a big bully. It was because Ben looked very much like Jeff, an ex-classmate of mine from my former school. Jeff was a big bully who was always hitting me. In fact, my parents got me transferred to my present school because of the trouble Jeff was giving me. I also thought that Ben was a show-off.

Ben was good at soccer and I was the captain of my class soccer team. I had no choice but to choose him to play in the Inter-class Soccer Tournament because we did not have enough players. We had a big fight during the quarterfinals because I felt he was monopolising the ball. He argued that he could not pass the ball to other team members because they were all too far away. I thought that was a lame excuse.

However, I could not put him out of the team because he was a very good player. Ben was also good in Mathematics,a subject which I was rather weak in. One day, a few weeks before the semi-finals of our soccer tournament, we had to sit for a Mathematics test. My Mathematics teacher was quite annoyed with me because she felt that I was putting more effort in the soccer tournament than in Mathematics She threatened to ask my Principal to remove me as the class soccer captain if I failed that test.

I was very nervous and frustrated. When Ben heard about my problem, he approached me and offered to coach me. I was very surprised but he told me to forget about our fight. He also said that I was a good soccer captain and the team could not afford to lose me. So, for the next few days,Ben and I met after school and he gave me intensive coaching in Mathematics. It was only a short period, but I actually got to know Ben better. Ben also learnt why I was so unfriendly towards him when we first met.

Because of Ben’s help, I just managed to pass my Mathematics test. So, I was still the soccer captain. But the best news was that my class emerged as champion in the Inter-class Soccer Tournament. Ben still continues to help me in my Mathematics and we are now the best of friends,We are also training very hard for our first inter-school soccel tournament. I have learnt an important lesson from this incident. I have learnt that I should not judge a person by his looks, and I should always try to get to know the person better before assuming that he is not a pleasant person.
