If you had the power, what would you change in the worid?

IF YOU HAD THE POWER, WHAT WOULD YOU CHANCE IN THE WORLD

If I had the power, the one thing I would change in the world is abolish poverty. At first sight this seems like an impossibility but there is reason to believe that given the power to do it, I can — and I do not mean magical powers. Once I can change the economic system, I think I can wipe out poverty forever. There is abundance on earth. There is no need for poverty to exist, yet it does — promoted mostly through selfishness by some people, who would eat luxuriously and waste great quantities while their brothers and sisters starve in other parts of the globe.

First I will change people’s view that there is shortage in the world. Evidence shows that there is shortage of some things in some parts of the world but no overall shortage. If there is overall shortage of anything, the world would have ground to a halt some time ago. Having made people realise this, I will get the experts to plan a world economy. Each country will produce what it is best at. Certain countries are already contributing to the world economy; like the rain forest countries. Some of these countries live in abject poverty while people depending on the rain forest, all over the globe, live in plenty. The truth is that unwittingly the people in the rain forest countries are keeping the world alive by leaving the forests alone.

The same countries which cry out for the protection of the rain forest, otherwise they would perish, do not do enough for the people of the rain forest. If planned carefully, the impoverished people of the rain forest will live in luxury like their brothers and sisters elsewhere. The export from the rain forest would be important things like weather, rainfall and the ecology. Since the rain forest countries will be forbidden to farm, the humans from other parts of the world will sell them their needs. The price will be negotiated based on the importance of maintaining the rain forest. It makes little sense that even the desert countries which have oil are richer than the rain forest countries. A price has been fixed on oil just because it can be moved. A price should be fixed for not moving the rain forest.

Having the power to fix new economy rules will correct the poverty situation in the world. The existing economy rules work on shortage; which does not exist if we look at the earth as a whole instead of as separate countries with their own interest. Often these interests are at the expense of the interest of others. With a united earth economy, everyone’s needs will be taken care of.
