PSLE Situational Writing (Grade A1 Model Answer)

To: Mdm Li
Subject: Incident During Our Group Task at Diana's House

Dear Mdm Li,

I am writing to inform you about an incident that took place at Diana's house on 21 June 2021 while our group was completing a holiday assignment.

Kaleb was unhappy with Diana for two reasons. First, she had used a picture from the Internet even though we were supposed to draw our own pictures. Second, he felt that submitting such work would not reflect our best effort, especially after he had spent many hours completing his part of the task.

Diana responded by saying that she did not have enough time to draw her own picture and suggested that we submit the work anyway. She also felt that Kaleb was being unreasonable.

I approached Kaleb and Diana because I wanted to remind them of the importance of doing our best in group tasks, as you had often emphasised. I also felt that you should be informed about the incident.

How to Plan and Write This Situational Writing for PSLE Grade A1

Step 1: Identify PAF (Purpose, Audience, Format)

Purpose

To inform Mdm Li about an incident that occurred during a group task.

Audience

Mdm Li (form teacher).

Format

Formal Email.

Because you are writing to a teacher, use a respectful and formal tone.

Step 2: Highlight All Required Content Points

Content Point : Information from the Pictures

Date of incident : 21 June 2021

Place of incident ; Diana's house

Reason 1 Kaleb was unhappy : Diana used a picture from the Internet

Reason 2 Kaleb was unhappy : The work did not reflect their best effort

Diana's response : She had no time and wanted to submit it anyway; she said Kaleb was unreasonable

Always explain the reason clearly.

Step 5: Use Strong A1 Vocabulary

Simple Word : A1 Vocabulary

unhappy : dissatisfied / upset

tell : inform

happened : occurred

worktogether : collaborate

effort : commitment

important : essential

remind : emphasise

Example:

❌ Kaleb was unhappy.

✅ Kaleb was dissatisfied because the work did not reflect the group's best effort.

Step 6: Use Formal Linking Words

Examples:

Example:

First, she had used a picture from the Internet. Second, Kaleb felt that the work did not reflect their best effort.

Step 7: Write a Purposeful Conclusion

Since the purpose is to inform the teacher, end by explaining why you took action.

Example:

I felt it was important to bring this matter to your attention because it concerns honesty, responsibility and the quality of our group work.

This strengthens your conclusion.
