Jaywalking

‘Simon, take these cakes to your aunt’s,’ said his mother.Simon who was watching television, groaned a little. He was watching his favourite cartoon, “The Mask’ and was greatly bothered by the errand. However, he still had to do it. After all,his aunt lived just a few blocks of flats away from the main road, and she always gave him a tip.

So Simon took the plastic container containing the cakes and hurried out. ‘Use the traffic lights, son,’his mother called out,”and be careful”, she added.

“Yes, Ma,” replied Simon.

Soon, he was by the road. A small crowd waited for the green man to appear. Simon joined them.

However, the green man took a long time to appear. The crowd grew restless. Simon became impatient. He thought something must be wrong with the lights. He decided to run across the road. Unfortunately, as he was doing so, a van came hurtling along and almost knocked into Simon. The van, while trying to avoid the boy crashed into a lamp post. Although pobody was hurt, Simon was visibly shaken. He was never going to jaywalk again.
