Late Again!

It rained heavily. I woke up late in the morning for it was very cold. My mother rushed me to school. I almost missed the bus.

Midway, the bus was caught in floodwaters. The road was flooded. The vehicles were practically at a stand still. My heart sank and my head hurt. I was going to be late again. I wondered how Mr Magendren, our discipline master would punish me this time.

I finally entered the school grounds. The morning assembly was long over. I walked hurriedly up a short flight of stairs into the school building. No one was about, not even the two obnoxious prefects who guarded the gates. I was that late. I looked sheepishly about but Mr Magendren was not in sight. I headed for my classroom.

Before I could turn the corner though, a voice bellowed from behind me, “Oh it’s you again, is it? What is it this time?” It was Mr Magendren. He was soaking wet and appeared as though he had just stepped in himself.

“I was stuck in a jam, Sir,” I stammered, looking down.

“It’s all right little boy. Go to your class. My car was stuck in the jam too!”

I thanked him and rushed to my class.
