Lazy Ramu

Ramu’s favorite past time was to laze around. When he was not in school, he would do nothing but sit on the sofa and watch television. As a result, his mother was constantly scolding him. His brothers and sisters would call him good for nothing. Unlike Ramu, his siblings were very hard working and studious. Ramu’s elder sister was studying architecture in an elite college. The constant scoldings did not bother Ramu at all. As long as he had his television and junk food, he was happy.

On Ramu’s birthday, his uncle presented him with a camera. He was so delighted with the camera that he started taking his camera everywhere with him. He constantly took pictures of various cars, motorcycles, pedestrians and popular sight-seeing spots. Even fast food establishments were not spared!

One day, Ramu’s elder sister called him aside. “I have an important assignment to do which requires me to get different architectural designs of houses. Rather than waste your film roll on silly pictures, why don’t you take some photographs of various houses? It would be a big help to me,” said his sister. When Ramu heard this request, he immediately agreed. He felt important helping his sister.

The following week was spent taking photographs of different houses in various locations. As he was returning to his house, he suddenly remembered that he had forgotten to take a picture of an impressive semi-detached house in Blue Woods Avenue. He had seen that the house. When he was quite a distance away from the house, he noticed a blue van which had been parked a moment ago in that house, pass by him. The driver who was stern-faced briefly glanced at him in passing.

The following day, as Ramu’s family sat around the television watching the evening news, the newscaster announced that a kidnapping had taken place at a house in Blue Hill Avenue at about six p.m. Ramu was shocked when he saw the picture of the very same house he had snapped the day before. What disturbed him even more was the fact that he had been there around the time mentioned. He decided to remain silent on the matter.

The next day, he developed the films at a studio. When he found the picture of the house,he scrutinized the window of the house, which had been opened. “Oh, my God!” breathed Ramu. The police inspector whom Ramu had handed the picture to was very interested.Once the picture of the window was blown up, faces of the kidnappers could be seen clearly.The police subsequently arrested the kidnappers. A proud Ramu and his family were rewarded a thousand dollars for helping the police solve the case. Never again did Ramu’s family call him good-for-nothing.
