When Daniel first joined our class, he was quiet and withdrawn. During recess, he would sit alone in a corner, eating silently while the rest of us chatted and laughed together. Some pupils even teased him because he spoke softly and struggled to answer questions in class.
One afternoon, I noticed a group of boys making fun of him. Daniel lowered his head and walked away without saying a word. Seeing the sadness in his eyes, I felt sorry for him. I knew I had to do something.
The next day, I invited Daniel to sit with me during recess. At first, he seemed nervous, but he gradually opened up. I discovered that he had recently moved from another country and was still adjusting to life in Singapore.
Over the next few weeks, I made it a point to include him in group activities. I introduced him to my friends and helped him with his schoolwork whenever he needed assistance. We even created a study schedule and marked important dates on a calendar to help him stay organised.
Slowly but surely, Daniel began to change. He started participating in class discussions and even volunteered to answer questions. The smile that was once missing from his face became a familiar sight.
By the end of the year, Daniel had made many friends and was much more confident. More importantly, I learned that making a difference does not always require grand actions. Sometimes, a simple act of kindness can change someone's life for the better.

How to Plan and Write This Composition
Step 1: Understand the Pictures
Picture 1: Classroom
The story takes place in school.
A student may be facing difficulties in class.
Picture 2: Bullying or Teasing
Someone is being treated unfairly.
This event motivates the character to help.
Picture 3: Calendar
Improvement takes time.
The character helps consistently over weeks or months.
Step 2: Answer the Key Questions
What happened that caused the character(s) to want to make a difference?
Example:
A new student was being bullied.
A classmate was lonely and excluded.
Someone was struggling in school.
What happened in the end?
Example:
The student gained confidence.
Made new friends.
Improved academically.
Felt accepted and happy.
Step 3: Use This A1 Structure
Introduction
Introduce the new student and his problem.
Build-Up
Witness bullying or exclusion.
Feel concerned.
Action
Decide to help.
Include the student in activities.
Development
Continue helping over time.
Show gradual improvement.
Resolution
Student becomes confident and accepted.
Conclusion
Reflect on the lesson learnt.
Step 4: Show Emotions
Instead of: I felt sorry for him.
Write: My heart went out to him when I saw the sadness in his eyes.
Instead of: He was shy.
Write: He kept to himself and rarely spoke a word.
Instead of: He was happy.
Write: A bright smile spread across his face.
Step 5: Include Dialogue
Examples:
"Would you like to join us?" I asked.
"Thank you for helping me," Daniel said gratefully.
"You can do it," I encouraged him.
Dialogue makes the story more engaging and realistic.
