PSLE CONTINOUS WRITING COMPOSITIONS

“Ryan, you have fallen asleep in class again,” Mr Tan said sternly.

I lowered my head in embarrassment. I had been performing poorly in school and spent most afternoons playing computer games instead of studying. During Physical Education lessons, I would also become breathless after running only a short distance. My teachers and parents were worried about me.

One day, Mr Tan spoke to me after class. “You are capable of doing much better, Ryan. Improvement starts with small steps,” he encouraged.

His words stayed in my mind. That evening, I decided to make a change. I created a study timetable and limited my gaming time to one hour a day. I also started exercising every evening at the park. At first, it was difficult. I was tired and often felt like giving up. However, I reminded myself of my goal and persevered.

Weeks turned into months. Gradually, I became more disciplined. My grades improved, and I could run longer distances without feeling exhausted. My teachers noticed the difference, and my classmates even asked me for study tips.

At the end of the year, I was called onto the stage during Prize-Giving Day. To my surprise, I received the Character Award for showing determination and perseverance.

As I held the certificate in my hands, I felt proud of how far I had come. I realised that improvement does not happen overnight. With hard work, discipline and determination, anyone can become a better version of themselves.
