PRIMARY SCHOOL COMPOSITIONS (UPPER PRIMARY)

5/27/20242 min read

I was having my dinner when the doorbell rang. I opened the door and saw my classmate, Christopher. He was looking haggard. His face was very pale. He seemed to have aged by years. He was carrying a bag full of his clothes. His eyes were reddish probably because of insufficient sleep or excessive crying. His hands were trembling. Shocked, I invited him in .......

After dinner, I sat down. A long silence prevailed. I broke it, “So, would you like to tell me what had happened?” ”My parents had a fierce fight in the afternoon. They were quarrelling and throwing things at each other.” He began sobbing. “Then,Mom got so angry that she started cursing me. She even picked up a cane and hit me.....”I was not shocked, but I was disgusted When parents quarrelled, they should never vent their anger on children.

By then, Christopher was a sobbing wreck. I was upset and disgusted, but of course, sympathetic about his plight. I tried to comfort him by saying that his mother most probably didn’t mean it. Then the, sobbing wreck changed into a raging inferno. “Didn’t mean it?” The words were laced with sarcasm. “Didn’t mean it? That woman meant it. I could see the hatred in her eyes and the firmness of her grip on the cane. The terrible cursing words she used ..... Oh! She meant it all right. She meant it!” The last sentence was full of hatred, not exactly what we would hear from a 12 year old boy.

“Look at this!” He said, rolling up his sleeves. A long ted ugly mark ran across his arms. His legs were not spared too. “The pain in the heart and on the flesh is something you would never experience, Kaiming, I don’t think so.” His eyes had turned back to sorrow. “I can remember the times when we were a happy family. We used to go out to East Coast Park and shopping centres together.” He said wistfully. Then, the telephone rang. Christopher’s eyes widened with resentment.

“This must be them. I’ve got to go. Thanks for being such a good friend and listener. Please don’t tell any one that I’ve been here. Bye!” Before I could utter a word, he fled into the night.......

That was the last time anyone had seen Christopher. It seemed that he had disappeared into thin air.
